Collection: Clive Hicks-Jenkins
Clive Hicks-Jenkins was born in 1951 in Newport, South Wales. He began his career initially as a performer and puppeteer, then choreographer and stage director but turned from the theatre in the 1990s to concentrate on the visual arts. Hicks-Jenkins works through the media of painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, maquettes, animation and artist's books. A sense of place, especially of Wales, plays an important role in his landscape paintings and as emotionally charged backdrops to his still lifes and narrative works. His work is in the National Museum of Wales and the V&A and Simon Callow has described him as ‘one of the most individual and complete artists of our time'. These featured screenprints have been made in collaboration with Penfold Press and take direct inspiration from literature, poetry and Staffordshire pottery.
